It looks like Marvel fans will have to wait a little longer to enjoy several series for which expectations are high. This change in plans is due in large part to the current strikes by the Screenwriters Guild and the Screen Actors Guild. According to Variety, several series on the Disney+ platform have had their release dates changed, starting with season 2 of What If…?, which has had its premiere postponed several times, and is now will arrive on streaming in December. Its original release was in early 2023.
Another affected program is Echo, spin-off of Hawkeye (2021). Originally scheduled for November 29, it is now expecte to launch in January 2024. This series stars Alaqua Cox, the first deaf, Native American superheroine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (UCM). The series will maintain a full episodic release, making it the first case of "binge-watching" in the Marvel catalog on Disney+.
In addition, X-Men '97, a revival of the famous animated series from the 1990s, has been delayed until early 2024. Likewise, the premiere of Agatha: Coven of Chaos, will now be on fall 2024, targeting the Halloween season. The next series on the schedule remains the second season of Loki (96%), scheduled to premiere on October 6. Series such as Daredevil: Born Again and Wonder Man have been affected by labor strikes, as has Ironheart, a spin-off of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (88%), whose principal filming had already concluded.
These changes come at a time when Disney CEO Bob Iger has expressed concerns about Marvel's overproduction of series, which has "diluted" overall quality, suggesting that there will be a reduction in the number of annual titles from the company.
