Squid Game the South Korean series that became a phenomenon after its premiere on Netflix in September 2021, is ready to return with a second season. The platform officially announced its big release this year with a short teaser. Netflix also revealed the official release date and a surprising third and final season through an Instagram Post. Stating the return of Squid Game for December 26th this year.
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the showrunner stated "It's been almost three years since season 1 was met with incredible response around the world and many unimaginable events took place. I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for season 2 and share the news for season 3, the final season."
Key figures from the first season will return for the second. Writer-director and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk will be back, along with breakout star Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun, who famously abandoned his U.S. bound flight. We have long considered this an open-ended conclusion for the series. In fact, Jung-Jae won the Emmy in 2023 for Led Actor in a Drama Series thanks to this role.
In addition to announcing the premiere date of the new season of Squid Game, we unveiled the first photo of Gi-hun. Gi-hun now appears with a shorter black hairstyle, wearing a green suit, strongly suggesting his return to the Squid Game, leaving space to lots of questions.
The original Squid Game cast is also coming back, leading Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun as Front Man, along with Wi Ha-joon as Hwang Joon-ho , and Gong Yoo, coupled with the introduction of new talents like Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, and Park Gyu-young and many more.
