Saoirse Ronan has been a working as an actor for over 20 years, but this was her first time attending the Telluride Film Festival. In 2017, Lady Bird premiered at the festival, but Ronan was busy filming Mary Queen of Scots. For an encounter with Vanity Fair, she expresses “I’ve never been to a festival like this before where it really does feel like it’s about the films,” she says. “There’s nothing about it that makes you feel like you’re on show—it feels more in line with the experience of actually making a film.” Now, the Oscar nominee confesses she is working on the script for her first original project, which she will also direct, marking her debut as director.
In fact, Saoirse Ronan received a Silver Medallion at the Telluride Film Festival this past weekend screening her new film, The Outrun. Ronan delivers a powerful performance as Rona, a recovering addict who returns to her childhood home in the windswept Orkney Islands. The film, based on Amy Liptrot's memoir of the same name, is directed by Nora Fingscheidt and produced by Ronan and her husband, Lowden. She is certainly one of the youngest actors to ever receive the honor. At the age of 30, she has had a longer career than most, having started acting when she was a child. Her absolute amazing filmography includes Greta Wergin's Little Women, The Lovely Bones, and Budapest Hotel.
The actress confirms that she is working alongside Greta Wergin as her mentor on this new project she is so excited about. In the same interview, she added "I have a short that I'm halfway through and everyone around me, they're like, "Have you finished it yet?"
