It's been about a month since the news of the 'American Psycho' by Luca Guadagnino has been out on the internet, his fourth movie in a really short period of time, after 'Challengers' and 'QUEER', both critics darling of 2024, and 'After The Hunt', set to release mid 2025.
Not a surprise for anyone the conversation around a new 'American Psycho', given that the original movie starring Christian Bale is fairly recent according to most people, so they are reluctant to accept a new vision of it, specially with the original being somewhat of a cult classic, with a big fandom behind it.
The most scandalous thing about it, of course, has been the rumours, expectations and speculations about who they are going to cast to play the iconic role of Patrick Bateman, perfectly done before by Bale.
Cooper Konch, known for his recent role in Ryan Murphy's 'Monsters', talked about wanting the role multiple times, and one of the first rumours had Jacob Elordi as the newest "Luca Guadagnino's boy", but all that is down the drain now that Variety shares the exclusive news about Austin Butler officially joining the movie as Bateman.
We know, at the moment, that this version is not going to be the same as the 2000's movie, but a completely new adaptation of the original novel by Bret Easton Ellis, this time with Scott Z. Burns writing the script.
Guadagnino is a prolific director, with a very unique vision that can bring a new light even to previously known intellectual property, like he did with his 'Suspiria' reboot back in 2019. So let's hope that he can take the talents of Oscar nominee Austin Butler and give a totally different twist to the Patrick Bateman character and the 'American Psycho' movie.
