It looks like James Gunn's new 'Superman' (former 'Superman: Legacy') movie might be the saving grace of the DCU, making the internet go crazy one way or another with the release of its first trailer.
It's not a secret that, when it comes to live action adaptations of comics, Warner Bros. and the DC Universe haven't been the luckiest there is, with just a couple of projects that actually made an impact between general audiences, one of them being James Gunn's 'The Suicide Squad', the official reboot of the DC Cinematic Universe after the first failed attempt of the 'Suicide Squad' film by David Ayer.
Although the first part of this reboot was focusing on the villains and antiheroes, it was obvious that the next step had to be a new, fresh, lense on the Superheroes, after the grim and serious look we got from Zack Snyder's Justice League. This time around, with David Corenswet starring as the man of steel, James Gunn's 'Superman' is younger and with a whole new set of problems and nuances.
The movie will feature a lot of new faces and new adaptations of different beloved characters, including Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced (Alien: Romulus) as Hawkgirl, Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as Supergirl and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, with many other superheroes and villains that we haven't seen in a while or even at all, like María Gabriela de Farías' "The Engineer" a new antagonist that is getting a live action adaptation for the first time.
Releasing on July 11, 2025 and shot exclusively for IMAX, it looks like Warner is betting on 'Superman' to be the start of something great for the DCU, with this being just chapter one.
