The reign of Richard The Lionheart was one of the most eventful and colorful in England's long history. The third son of Henry II, Richard devoted his life to crusading and defending his lands in France.

An outstanding and courageous soldier, he was arrested and imprisoned in Germany in 1193: his brother John tried to seize the crown, and the enduring legend of Robin Hood was born.
