World War II shatters the idyllic life of Rosario (Nora Aunor), a school teacher, and her boyfriend Crispin (Bembol Roco), a soldier fighting the Japanese army.

Capt. Masugi (Christopher De Leon), a Philippine-born Japanese, comes upon Rosario's house and rapes her. Rosario becomes pregnant and later agrees to marry him.

Accused as Japanese colaboraters Rosario and her family flee the area.
