This is the story of the SS Ventnor which left Wellington New Zealand on October 26th 1902 on a mission to return the bodies of 499 Chinese gold miners to their place of birth in Guangdong China The illfated ship tragically sank ten miles off the coast of Hokianga in the north of New Zealand According to Chinese beliefs their souls are restless at the bottom of the sea
