In July 1996, the Nigerian men's national football team headed to the US Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Buoyed with a sense of optimism and excitement, the young squad and their maverick Dutch coach left with the measured hopes of their country.

Three weeks later, they returned as kings and heroes of an entire continent.
