Seventh Heaven

In 1914, in a poor Paris neighborhood, sewer cleaner Chico saves Diane from her brutal sister and promises to look after her. Although Diane feels unworthy, Chico convinces her to move in with him in his apartment on the seventh floor, which Diane describes as heaven.

The couple pretends to be married to satisfy the police, but after the war begins, Chico is drafted and leaves Diane on her own.
