Since WW1, fighter aircraft paid a price for their speed and maneuverability. With their compact airframes, it was a challenge to stock them with adequate fuel as they trekked deep into enemy territory.

But was there a way for fighters to bring their air bases and supplies with them? Could flying aircraft carriers be constructed to deliver an entire fighter force over the epicenter of combat zone
