The Allman Brothers Band combined deeply Southern strains of music — blues, country, and gospel — with boisterous rock and roll and their jazzy, jam-oriented style.

Thus they created the 'New South' sound, drafting a template to be used for decades by everyone from Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Marshall Tucker Band to My Morning Jacket and the Drive-By Truckers.
