Filmed over the course of fifteen hours from evening to dawn in a cheap Manhattan hotel, Chantal Akerman’s radical, silent experiment in duration stands as one of the filmmaker’s most arresting formal achievements, collapsing time and framing the quotidian space like an Edward Hopper tableaux as it gradually makes its way from the lamplit lobby to the rooftop overlooking an awakening city.
