Renowned dream scientist Ambrose London is called to Arkham Asylum to study a strange case of split personality. James is seemingly inhabited by the personality of Joe Slater, a primitive colonial peasant who seemingly vanished 122 years ago.

The investigation takes an unexpected turn when James is attached to London's "Dream Machine", releasing an alien lifeform hell bent on world annihilation.
