First trailer is out for Benny Safdie's solo debut 'The Smashing Machine', distributed by A24 and starring Dwayne Johnson ('Red One') and Emily Blunt ('A Quiet Place'), a new biopic and sports drama about the legendary MMA fighter Mark Kerr.
Benny Safdie, beloved filmmaker and actor, is working solo in this biopic as director, screenwriter, editor and producer, alongside A24, after working with his brother Josh Safdie in most of his projects, like the upcoming 'Marty Supreme', starring Timothée Chalamet, and A24's 'Uncut Gems'.
'The Smashing Machine', apart from the two main actors, the cast is full of professional MMA fighters, boxers, and different athletes, some retired, some with acting experiences and some still in the business, including Ryan Bader, Bas Rutten ('Kevin Can Wait'), Oleksandr Usyk, Yoko Hamamura and many other.
The film will follow Mark Kerr's (Johnson) life through his years of glory, to his retirement, and his relationship with Dawn Staples (Blunt), as well as his struggles being in the public life.
The movie it's releasing in the United States this October 3, with A24 most likely taking care of the international distribution some weeks after the local release.
Also this film would mark the first Dwayne Johnson project that is not a blockbuster in over a decade, with this being the first time working in a smaller more "art house" type of film.
