The tumultuous saga involving Grammy-winner Lil Nas X (Montero Hill) and his felony battery charges are making the rounds today, November 17, 2025.
The rapper made his first in-person court appearance since his shocking arrest in August, following his release from an undisclosed inpatient treatment program.
The appearance in the Los Angeles courtroom was brief, with a judge signing a protective order regarding the transfer of discovery in the criminal case.
However, the biggest takeaway was the star’s demeanor. Lil Nas X, 26, walked into the courthouse smiling, which his legal team immediately made sure to emphasize.
The case stems from an incident this past August 21, 2025, when police responded to reports of a man walking naked on Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles.
Prosecutors allege that when police arrived, Montero charged at the officers, using "force and violence" that caused injures to three of them, and resisted a fourth officer.
Police initially transported him to a hospital on suspicion of a possible overdose after the assault.
Later, the charges for him were three felony counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one felony count of resisting an executive officer.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. If convicted, he faces up to five years in state prison.
The rapper's subsequent court date in September was missed and he was no show after his legal team confirmed he had entered an inpatient treatment program out of state to address personal challenges.
Outside the courthouse, his attorney, Drew Findling, was quick to provide a positive update to reporters: "As you can see, Montero is doing amazing, doing great and we’re super happy for him."
The lawyer also expressed confidence in achieving a "positive resolution" to the case.
The star's father, Robert Stafford, previously spoke out, describing his son as "very remorseful" and confirming that he would get the help he needs in order to something like this never repeating again.
After his August arrest, Lil Nas X himself posted a video assuring fans he would "be alright" after the terrifying experience.
Today's appearance marks a hopeful public step in a difficult journey for the artist, and we hope that things turn for the best.
His next court date is scheduled for March 12, 2026, as the legal process continues and there's not a final decision yet.
