Director Eric Spade Rivas has reached out to Mickey Rourke with a unique offer to help the actor through a difficult financial period.
Rivas offered Rourke a cameo in his upcoming independent film, Scarface Resurrection.
The role consists of a single scene lasting about two minutes, for which the director can pay $1,000.
While Rivas acknowledges that Mickey Rourke deserves a much higher salary, he explained that as an indie filmmaker, this is the best he can offer at the moment.
The director made the offer after reading reports about Rourke's recent financial struggles.
Furthermore the Oscar-nominated actor is reportedly nearly $60,000 behind on rent and faces potential eviction from his New York apartment.
A friend of the actor even launched a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $100,000 to help him get back on his feet.
Rivas previously worked with Rourke on a project in 2020 called The Duke of New York, and despite some past complications, the director says there is no bad blood between them.
Scarface Resurrection is currently in the final stages of editing and is scheduled for release around April.
The movie stars Michael Musto, Roberta Pacino, and the late Angel Salazar, who famously played "Chi Chi" in the original 1983 Scarface film. If Rourke accepts the offer, his appearance would be a last-minute addition to the project.
Rivas believes that even a small amount of money and a quick day on set could provide a helpful boost for the actor.
Mickey Rourke has had a long and varied career in Hollywood, known for his roles in The Wrestler and Iron Man 2.
His recent public struggles have sparked a wave of concern among fans and colleagues in the industry.
While it remains unclear if Rourke will accept the cameo, the offer highlights the supportive nature of some within the independent film community.
Supporters hope that Rourke can resolve his legal and financial issues soon so he can continue his work in cinema.
