Dumb Money, a film based on one of the most notorious financial scandals of recent years, now has an official trailer. In fact, this exciting production from Sony Pictures and Black Bear Pictures promises a riveting story and a stellar cast. Leading the way are Paul Dano, known for his role as The Riddler in The Batman, and Seth Rogen, famous for his performance in Superbad: Today and as the voice of Donkey Kong in Super Mario Bros.: The Movie.
In fact, the film tells the story of a group of amateur investors who created a community on Reddit that, in 2020, begins to transform a failing company into one of the hottest in the stock market. The brand in question is GameStop, popular physical stores selling video games of all kinds of platforms, consoles and other tidbits in the United States. Upon investing in the company's low-priced shares and seeing how their profits increased, young Keith Gill (Dano), known on r/wallstreetbets as Roaring Kitty, begins to share these tips on the social network, creating a revolutionary movement in the speculative market, creating billionaires to take action to put an end to the joke.
In addition, Gill's maneuvers began to entangle hedge funds, with large Wall Street investors betting on the stock's fall. However, the social network group's actions generated a domino effect for this and other companies, turning the fight into a global issue, something like David versus Goliath, with small fish challenging the industry giants. The story has already been turned into a documentary on streaming platforms such as Netflix.
The cast, in addition to Dano and Rogen, includes Pete Davidson, Vincent D'Onofrio, America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), Nick Offerman, among others.
Dumb Money opens September 22, 2023 in U.S. theaters.
