'Dead Man's Wire' is an upcoming hostage thriller movie by American filmmaker Gus Van Sant ('My Own Private Idaho'; 'Good Will Hunting'), telling the real life story of Tony Kiritsis (an infamous figure from the 70's), with a script from Austin Kolodney.
Originally, back in March 2024, the script by Kolodney was going to be the comeback of legendary German filmmaker Werner Herzog ('Nosferatu The Vampyre'), with Nicolas Cage starring as Kiritsis, but for unknown reasons, in December we got the news that the movie is now under Gus Van Sant's direction, with Bill Skarsgård ('Nosferatu') starring as Tony Kiritsis and Dacre Montgomery ('Stranger Things') as Dan Hall. A couple of days ago Colman Domingo revealed he is joining the cast of 'Dead Man's Wire' as Fred Heckman.
You might not be familiar with the Kiritsis story, but he was relevant because of what he did back in February 1977: holding his mortgage broker hostage for 63 hours after he didn't get extra time to pay his debt. The thing is, he did all of this really publicly, calling the police himself to announce he was holding Hall hostage, and even calling a radio station where newsman Fred Heckman (Coleman) was broadcasting all he had to say.
After he released Hall and the police took him and after the whole trial process, the veredict was "Not guilty" for reasons of insanity, since everyone was testifying in favour of his good character and what he did, was in psychotic state because of his circumstances.
We don't really know how accurate is going to be to real life, considering Dacre's character is "Dan Hall" and there's no one with that name in the records, or what tone or commentary the script is going to take, we'll have to find out.
