Earlier today sources were talking about the upcoming 'Sgt. Rock' film at DC Studios, with director Luca Guadagnino, as there was a rumour going around that the production was no longer moving forward, despite now knowing part of the cast.
Lucky enough for us, now we know that the project is not undergoing cancellation but rather just a delay in production. Originally, 'Sgt. Rock' was aiming to start shooting this August in the United Kingdom after director Guadagnino had been location scouting this past weeks, but it was too soon to get everything ready.
Now, instead of rushing the production, they are going to start shooting next summer 2026, with the main cast being Colin Farrell ('The Penguin') as Sgt. Franklin John Rock, with Mike Faist ('Challengers') and David Jonsson ('Alien: Romulus') joining him.
The film, with a screenplay by Guadagnino's now usual collaborator Justin Kuritzkes, would happen amidst the WWII, with a squad on the lookout for "the Spear of Destiny", an artifact belived to have supernatural qualities, trying to get to it before the Nazis could get their hands on it and things took a turn for the worse.
We don't know if the screenplay will undergo revisions or changes now that these details are public, in this year of delay, but DC has been promision greatness with their upcoming projects and this seems like the perfect project to do something new and fresh with the superhero genre now that Marvel is aiming to do the same with their new releases.
In the meantime, director Luca Guadagnino will be filming the 'American Psycho' reboot in the meantime, with talks for the main role are already happening. We'll make sure to report back in case things about this production change.
