The "Hot Topics" table on The View looked different this week start of the week, as moderator, Academy Award Winner Whoopi Goldberg was noticeably absent from her seat.
Today, November 17, her co-hosts wasted no time in revealing the incredible reason, as well as herself on a new Instagram story.
The EGOT winner took a weel off to Italy for her newest acting role, a multi-episode acting commitment on a long-running soap opera!
Co-host Joy Behar confirmed the news on air, explaining, "If you're wondering why I'm here on a Monday, and Whoopi is not, it's because she's in Italy filming a soap opera!"
Goldberg, who turned 70 last week, is taking a planned break from the ABC talk show to film a guest spot on Un Posto Al Sole (A Place in the Sun), the longest-running Italian soap opera.
The series is set in Naples, and the actress, who has spent nearly two decades on 'The View', recently confessed that the role came about because she was "looking for things to do" and some friends presented her with this new "crazy idea."
Goldberg will be playing an American translator who moves into the apartment complex where the show happens.
In a video message sent from her hair and makeup chair in Italy, Goldberg admitted to her co-hosts that she was still feeling "very nerve-wracking" about the part.
On The View's Behind the Table podcast, Whoopi stated it was "time for me to do some things in addition to this," signaling her desire to pursue more acting and passion projects outside of her daily moderation duties.
While the co-hosts definitely miss their leader and friend, there's lots of excitement for her, and the fact she is embracing her love for acting again and enjoying the break away in Naples.
Fans can expect to see Goldberg's character premiere on the Italian show in 2026.
