UFC fighter Cameron Smotherman has spoken out following a frightening incident where he collapsed during an official weigh-in on Friday, January 23, 2026.
The 28-year-old athlete fell to the floor and appeared to lose consciousness moments after stepping off the scale in Las Vegas.
Medical personnel quickly provided assistance, and Smotherman was able to sit up shortly after the fall.
Despite the scare, he later released a video statement on Instagram to reassure fans and clarify the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
In his statement, Smotherman addressed online speculation that drastic weight cutting caused the incident. "I genuinely didn't cut very much weight for this fight," he explained.
He noted that he entered the week with a low weight and did not feel the cut was excessive.
The fighter revealed that he will undergo further medical testing in the coming weeks to determine the actual cause of the collapse.
He also took the opportunity to apologize to his scheduled opponent, Ricky Turcios, for the cancellation of their bout.
The bantamweight fight between Smotherman and Turcios was slated for Saturday, January 24, as part of UFC 324.
However, the organization canceled the match immediately following the weigh-in incident to prioritize Smotherman's health.
Smotherman had successfully made weight at 135.5 pounds before he fainted.
The incident has reignited discussions within the MMA community regarding the physical tolls of professional fighting, even when athletes follow standard protocols.
While Smotherman insists he is "completely okay," the upcoming medical evaluations will be crucial for his return to the octagon.
Fans and fellow fighters have sent messages of support to the young athlete as he recovers.
For now, Smotherman remains focused on his health and hopes to return to competition once he receives a full medical clearance.
