The world of music is not enough for The Weeknd, who will now enter the world of acting and will do so with the streaming service HBO Max, in addition, it will be with one of the most striking directors of the time; Sam Levinson, whom you may recognize for his work in Euphoria.
The Weeknd will not only participate as an actor in The Idol, the new HBO series. The singer also helped write the series, along with Reza Fahim and is calling it "the most sordid love story in all of Hollywood".
This will be the first time we'll see Abel 'The Weeknd' Tesfaye in the world of Television as not counting his videos, his only merit before seen was a simple cameo in the movie Uncut Gems (2019). Other works the singer had done was lending his voice for series like: 'The Sipmson' 'American Dad' and 'Robot Chicken'.
The series will be about the leader (The Weeknd) of a cult/sect/self-help group. This leader will begin an indecent relationship with a budding pop star played by Jhonny Depp's daughter, Lily-Rose Depp. The rest of the cast includes Troye Sivan, Anne Heche, Suzanna Son, Steve Zissis, Juliebeth Gonzalez, Maya Eshet, Tyson Ritter, Kate Lyn Sheil, Liz Sierra and Finley Rose Slater.
In the trailer of The Idol, another well-known face that will participate in the 6-episode show was also seen, and that is popular K-Pop singer Jennie Kim from the group Blackpink. At the moment, it is still unknown if her role will really play an important role in the plot of the TV show.
Although the premiere date is unknown, different sources claim that the series will premiere by the end of the year.
