The Apprentice, the biopic about the creation of the Donald Trump we all know, has just release the first trailer on the very day of the first national debate between Trump himself and Kamala Harris for the presidency of the United States. In fact, The Aprentice stars Sebastian Stan (Pam and Tommy) and follows Trump’s rise to fame and his time learning from influential right-wing lawyer and political fixer Roy Cohn, played by Jeremy Strong (Succession). Strong plays Cohn, a prestigious and controversial American lawyer and advisor who was Trump's mentor in his youth, and the one who led him to become the financial predator and media personality we all know.
The film is a Gabriel Sherman's original screenplay and Ali Abbasi performs as director. This film traces Trump's early career in New York real estate, focusing on his ascent to power. It also explores his controversial relationship with Cohn and the darker side of American business. Fearing the film's portrayal of him, the hotel magnate and politician's lawyers sent a cease and desist order to the producers of The Apprentice, with the intention of blocking the purchase of the film and its distribution in the United States. Nevertheless, despite threats from the candidate's team,the film will be released smoothly in the US on October 11, 2024, less than a month before the US elections, marking one of the most controversial productions of recent years. The movie also stars Maria Bakalova as Ivana Trump, Catherine McNally as Mary Anne Trump, as well as Ben Sullivan, Martin Denovan and Joe Pingue.
