Nearing the end of the year, the heavy hitters for the awards season are coming out for the general public, and 'MARÍA' starring Angelina Jolie is definitely one of them.
Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín is the director of 'MARÍA', what will be the end of the trilogy of biopics narrating the nuanced lives of iconic women, along with 'SPENCER' and 'JACKIE'. This time around we're following late Opera singer María Callas, interpreted by Angelina Jolie. This will be her comeback to acting after we last saw her on Marvel's 'Eternals' directed by Chloe Zhao.
The movie has had a great run across movie festivals and multiple awards and recognition this 2024. Following great reviews for the film itself and Angelina's performance.
Jolie positions herself front and center for Academy Awards prediction sheets, never leaving the top 5 for most experts in the field. Becoming a front runner for the 'Best Actress' category, this being her second chance to snatch the award if she lands the nomination.
And now, we're closer and closer to witnessing what the critics have been talking about. The rollout for the general public begins this Wednesday, November 27, when 'MARÍA' will be opening on select theaters across the United States before coming to us all on December 11, streaming on Netflix.
In the meantime, here's the trailer so you can make an idea for yourself of the level of epic drama that we're gonna be getting into before the year ends.
A worthy successor of the greatness we have seen from Pablo's work and style in his previous films and, who knows, maybe this will his best to date. Are you excited to know more about the Opera icon?
