The most recent Sky TV Original 'Sweetpea' starring Ella Purnell turns out to be a total success for the platform, announcing its second season yesterday through an Instagram post by the main actress.
In case you haven't seen it yet, 'Sweetpea' is a dark comedy/thriller following a quiet girl who fantasizes constantly about getting back at her past bullies and the people that constantly mistreat her. Everything going sideways once her father, the only person she has, dies on a hospital bed.
Ever since it came out, it's been a hot topic amongst Tik Tok and X (formerly Twitter) users, drawing a lot of attention to its complex morally gray characters, and the romantic interests for the protagonist, spawning a lot of video edits.
Sky TV as a network doesn't have that many original projects coming out at the moment, at least not any that generate that much conversation, while it airs and after it. For them to be betting so much on 'Sweetpea' and it doing great unanimously between both critics and audience, it's a great sing.
Let's hope that we are gonna be seeing the show in the upcoming award season in the comedy categories, even if just a nomination, since it would mean a lot for the team involved and a huge boost for the network.
That way they can keep investing in new interesting projects as daring and fun as 'Sweetpea' with something to back it up.
There are not much details about Season 2 yet, but we're probably gonna be hearing a lot about the production this early 2025.
