All fans of the Doctor Who series know that the new Doctor will be Ncuti Gatwa in the fourteenth season (since 2005) of this long-running British series, however, nothing had been reveale about his companion. Until now, when the BBC has announced that it will be the actress Millie Gibson who will accompany the doctor. Known for her role as Kelly Neelan in the British soap opera Coronation Street, Gibson landed her new role in Doctor Who after being up against hundreds of candidates who auditioned throughout last September in the utmost secrecy.
"Although I am still in total disbelief, I am very lucky to be the one who will be playing the Doctor's companion," Gibson said in a statement, "this role is a gift and a dream come true, and I will do my best to try to live up to companions who have traveled before me. And what better way to do that than to be alongside the fabulous Ncuti Gatwa? "Millie is simply the perfect partner. She is full of talent, strength and has a cheeky twinkle in her eye. From the moment she walked into the room, she captured all of our attention with her effervescence. This adventure is going to be so wild and so much fun that I can't WAIT to sail the universe with Millie!" added Ncuti Gatwa.
However, before we see where the TARDIS takes Gatwa and Gibson, Doctor Who fans will once again be able to enjoy the talents of David Tennant and Catherine Tate as the Doctor and his companion in a new special to be broadcast to celebrate 60 years of the time travel series.
