Luca Guadagnino’s Queer plunges viewers into a world of raw desire, obsession, and the complexities of human connection. Based on William S. Burroughs’ novel, Guadagnino crafts a cinematic experience that explores the depths of human emotion and morality.
Daniel Craig delivers a powerful performance as William Lee, a heroin addict consumed by a dangerous obsession with the young ex-military man, Eugene Allerton, portrayed by Drew Starkey (The Devil All the Time). Guadagnino directs with a masterful touch, creating a visually stunning and emotionally charged world that reflects the characters’ complex inner turmoil. Recently, production of Queer has released the first look at the actor starring in the film. The image shows the character of Lee sitting in a café, reading a newspaper, wearing a classic 1940s suit.
This will be Guadagnino's second feature film of 2024. Earlier this year, the Italian filmmaker released Challengers, a romantic drama about a love triangle starring Zendaya, Josh O'Connor, and Mike Faist. The film was written by Justin Kuritzkes, who has collaborated with the director again on his new production.
In addition to Daniel Craig known for performing James Bond om Agent 00's films, Queer features performances by Lesley Manville (Back to Black), Jason Schwartzman (Asteroid City), Henrique Zaga (The Stand), Ariel Schulman (Catfish), and David Lowery (Peter Pan and Wendy).
Queer is more than a love story; it’s a harrowing portrayal of addiction. The film explores the destructive power of desire and the blurred lines between love and obsession. Queer is hitting the big screen for the first time on September 3rd at the Venice Film Festival, making him back in the running for the Golden Lion once again.
