"He's crazy to do this," was what a photographer present at the filming of the eighth installment of Mission: Impossible 8 said. Initially titled Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two, the production starring Tom Cruise has just begun filming in England while maintaining the demanding physical sequences that characterize the saga and its protagonist. During a press visit to the set, Cruise, 61, was making a frantic dash across Westminster Bridge in a scene with the iconic Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster in the background. The photographs show the Ethan Hunt interpreter wearing a black tailored suit and a white shirt soaked in fake blood.
Alongside Cruise, he was with a group of extras around Parliament Square, wearing military uniforms and carrying props, along with some army Jeeps. The overall composition suggests that the character might be fleeing some dangerous situation after a fancy meeting.
The film, whose release now will be in 2025 due to the writers' and actors' strike in Hollywood, features a cast that includes Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell, and Pom Klementieff. Christopher McQuarrie will be the filmmakers this time. He worked on several installments of the franchise.
The previous film, Mission Impossible: Lethal Sentence - Part 1 was released in July 2023, competing with the cinematic event of the year: Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig's Barbie. Despite facing box office giants, it managed to surpass USD 500 million in global grosses.
Recently, rumors circulated that the eighth installment would see Cruise's last involvement in the saga, however, McQuarrie asked fans not to believe everything they read. "I've worked with Tom for 15 years and none of what they describe is really true," he maintained for the Light the Fuse podcast.
