For the first time in this installment of My Brilliant Friend, neither Margherita Mazzucco nor Gaia Girace will return. Actually, a year ago, we met the pair of actresses who will portray the protagonists in the series' last season. In the first place, Alba Rohrwacher (The Lost Daughter), who already made a brief appearance as Elena in the final shot of the last episode, will be joined by Irene Maiorino (Gomorrah) in the role of Lila.
Fabrizio Gifuni (Exterior Night) also joins My Brilliant Friend cast and portrays Nino Sarratore, the writer who has long been the object of Lenù's affection. In addition, Laura Bispuri, known for the transgender-themed drama Sworn Virgin and for Daughter of Mine comes back to direct this season. Rohrwacher starred in both films.
