Mattel Films has been developing a new 'Masters of the Universe' live action since almost 20 years ago, but it's not until now that alongside Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, with Amazon MGM distributing it next year on June 5, when it's going to hit theaters if they finish in time, that the project is actually moving forward.
Shooting has been going on since February 2025, and we even have some leaks from the set where we can see our main star Nicholas Galitzine ('Red, White and Royal Blue') who is playing He-Man, in normal attire under custody by cops.
Despite the actors doing press for the movie already, like Camila Mendes ('Riverdale') that has been answering some questions in recent interviews, the details of the plot for this iteration of He-Man are not out for the public yet, we don't know why or how He-Man is on Earth or how he's going back to fight for Eternia.
But we do know so far what iconic characters of the franchise we're gonna be seeing, and of course, the talented actors who are gonna be portraying them. Besides Galitzine as He-Man and Mendes as Teela, we have Idris Elba ('Thor') as Man-At-Arms and many more that will complete the good guys, while Jared Leto ('Morbius'), Alison Brie ('Community') and Morena Baccarin ('Deadpool') as Skeletor, Evil-Lyn and Teela's biological mother respectively.
The cast of 'Masters of the Universe' is big and full of recognizable names besides the ones we named, as well as up and coming ones, and according to what Mendes has to say without giving to much away, this is a superhero movie like we haven't seen before, giving a totally fresh feel to this iconic characters that have been in the back for so long. Let's hope the live action really delivers that.
